Course Description – UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE)

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE) to select candidates for various prestigious roles in the Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), and other Group A & B services.

IAS Exam Age Limits

• General Category: Candidates must be at least 21 years old. The maximum age is 32, with 6 attempts allowed.
• OBC Category: Candidates are allowed up to 9 attempts with a maximum age limit of 35 years.
• SC/ST Category: Candidates can attempt the exam an unlimited number of times until they reach the age of 37.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have completed their graduation degree. Candidates who have appeared for their qualifying degree exams but have not received the results are also eligible.

Number of Attempts

• General Category: 6 attempts
• OBC Category: 7 attempts
• SC/ST Category: Unlimited attempts until the age of 37

Attempting any paper in the preliminary examination counts as one attempt, including disqualification or cancellation of candidature. However, applying without attending the exam is not considered an attempt.
